Beauty Review: Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant

I have been using Dermalogica products for over a year now because they specifically cater for sensitive acne-prone skin and work very well on my skin. I usually make my own exfoliating mask with honey and salt (see post here) however, I felt like my pores were getting quite large and I just wanted something new to try out and so I felt like buying a really good exfoliating product.

Obviously, I have to really research into a product before I buy it because my skin is very sensitive and because Dermalogica products work really well on my skin without breaking me out, I automatically gravitated towards their website and discovered the Gentle Cream Exfoliant.

So, because Dermalogica are a high-end brand, I decided to buy the travel size version of the product. I would however, recommend going to a Dermalogica counter yourself and getting a free sample (Liberty London in Regent/Carnaby Street have one) but in my case, I took the lazy option and decided to purchase the travel size product.

On their website, it says “Dramatically improve skin texture with this two-in-one masque/exfoliation treatment. Non-abrasive formula contains Lactic Acid and Hydroxy Acid to help detach dead skin cells, increasing cell renewal while improving texture for dramatically smooth skin. Formulated without artificial fragrances and colours.”

I was quite wary of the fact that it is a chemical exfoliant because of the nature of my skin but because it said it was non-abrasive, I decided to give it a go.

The formula is a rather light and thin consistency almost moisture-like but when you apply it, it becomes very dry on the skin. I lather it onto my face, mainly concentrating on minimising those pores and I then leave it for 15 minutes. I then wash it off with warm water.

I have used it twice now and straight away after I have washed it off, my face feels rather smooth, the pores becomes dramatically smaller and it seems to kill those dead skin cells, which is the result I was looking for! It did not break me out one bit, so it is definitely a good product for those who have sensitive skin. You really notice the difference straight away.

The product is £37.90. I know it is very expensive and probably not worth it but if it does the trick, then why not buy it? Also, you only need to use it once or twice a week so therefore, the product will last you quite a long time.

Beauty Review: Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Foundation

I absolutely love Estee Lauder foundations and have been wearing them for a couple of years now as a day foundation. One reason why I love Estee Lauder products is because they do not break me out as most of them are non-comedogenic, non-acnegenic and oil-free.

After using the full-coverage Double Wear foundation for quite a long time, I came to realisation that, though it is such a great Autumn/Winter foundation due to its heavy texture and coverage, it is not a photo-friendly foundation and makes you look rather ghost-like in flash photos. which is not the look I want to be honest. So, after reading a lot of reviews and using a sample for a couple of weeks, I decided to purchase the Double Wear Light foundation in full and I must say, this has been my go-to foundation this Spring/Summer and probably will be this Autumn/Winter also.

This foundation is very matte, yet sheer so it is great for oily skin and  it does not clog any pores. It is non-acnegenic, so if you do suffer from acne, this foundation is great and will not break you out. It is such a good foundation for everyday wear as it is light and you cannot even tell that you have it on, depending on how many pumps you use of course. It has SPF 10, so good for flash photography.

What I personally think is one of the most amazing things about this foundation is that it lasts a very long time. You can put it on about 8am and it will stay on perfect until about 10pm, so it does stay true to its word, with it being a 15-hour foundation.

The packaging of the product is very easy to use unlike the other Double Wear foundation. It has a medium coverage, so if you have a lot of dark blemishes, you will need to conceal them after you put this on. I like full coverage foundations but this does the job for me as I feel like I do not have to conceal as much, probably due to the fact that my acne is not that severe as it used to be. It does not feel too greasy or dry either.

It retails for £28.50. Definitely on the expensive side but what I like to say is that, your facial skin is the most important part you should to take care of, so therefore if you can, try to invest in a pricier foundation which can benefit your skin as well as making you feel much for confident. I have tried many foundations in the past and I feel like this is definitely a foundation that is perfect for my skin and I will probably use for a very long time.

Beauty Review: MAC Fix +

Recently, I bought the MAC Fix + after hearing a lot of positive reviews about it. Fix + is a vitamin and mineral spray for your face after you have done your make-up to achieve a refreshing and flawless look.

I have been wanting a refreshing spray to put on after I have applied my make-up because sometimes, depending on what foundation I put on and how my skin is at the moment, my make-up can look a bit cakey. Since I have purchased this and started using it, my make-up has been looking flawless and I find that my face feels rather fresh, hydrated and clean during the day.

It is very easy to apply and you only need a little bit for it to do its job. I often hear people saying that it makes your make-up stay on longer, however, this is not a setting spray. Fix + is a refreshing spray that makes your skin feel fresher once you have applied your make-up. It does not make your make-up stay on longer. Refresher sprays are water based and water makes your skin feel fresher whereas setting sprays are alcohol based which sets your make-up therefore making it last longer.

It also does not finish that quick. I have only had it for about a month now and it still looks like I have not even used much of it, so one 100ml bottle will last you a long time.

It keeps your face glowing, absorbs quickly and adds a bit of dewiness to your face. If you have really oily skin, maybe this product might not be for you as it does not provide a matte finish. However, this is a very good product for combination or dry skin.

The price of the product is very affordable at £14.50 in the UK.

My Top Spring/Summer Make-Up Products…

These are the make-up products I have been using this Spring and will carry on using during the Summer months.

ImageClinique Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base – Sometimes, when I do get a red spot or two, I panic because I am afraid it will show under my make-up. However, I put this on underneath my foundation and after I put on my moisturiser to block the redness from showing. It is rather heavy so I just put on a small amount and it does the job.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Foundation – This is my go-to foundation for Spring/Summer as opposed to the other full coverage Double Wear foundation which is perfect for Autumn/Winter. Double Wear Light is great for oily skin and does not leave any shine as it is a very matte foundation. It feels very light and natural which is why it is great to wear in hot weather. I am usually skeptical about certain foundations as I do have acne-prone skin and always afraid they will break me out, however this foundation is non-acnegenic and non-comedegenic so therefore it does not clog any pores and it does not break me out at all. This is perfect for Spring/Summer.

Estee Lauder Disappear Smoothing Creme Concealer – I love this concealer and I use it under my eyes to cover any dark circles. It works really well.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – I rarely use drugstore products but this concealer is absolutely amazing when trying to cover up spots and pimples. It does not break me out at all and I have been using it for years. The only problem I have with this is that I have to keep reapplying this throughout the day. All in all, this is a great concealer to cover up spots and blemishes as well as dark circles around the eyes.

Urban Decay Naked Palette – I LOVE the Urban Decay Naked Palette. I only have the first one and I use it on a daily basis. I will be getting the Naked Palette 2 very soon. I usually use ‘Toasted’ on the crease and the lid and then I use ‘Sin’ under the brown bone and along the inner corner and the outer corner. This eyeshadow look gives a nice effect on the eyes when combining with eyeliner.

MAC Smolder Kohl Eyeliner – I love this eyeliner. The only thing I do not like about pencil eyeliners is that I have to sharpen them a lot and with my signature eye look that I do, the pencil needs to be very and I mean very sharp. My usual eye look is a cat-eye Arabian style look – Kim Kardashian, Hafia Wehbe style etc… Quite heavy in the Autumn/Winter but I do tone it down in the Spring/Summer.

Dior Diorshow Art Pen – I usually use this to enhance my eye make-up a little bit more by adding a flick on the outer corner of my eyes. This pen is really good and provides a very thin flick.

Maybelline Volum Express Mascara Falsies – Again, I rarely use drugstore products but I have been using this Maybelline mascara for a few months now and have been loving it. This is great for a full lash look with a fake lash effect to it, which I love.

MAC Candy Yum Yum Lipstick – I always go for a red lipstick but recently during Spring, I have gravitated towards pink lipsticks. I have been using MAC’s Candy Yum Yum lipstick which is a beautiful bright pink colour. It has a very matte finish and stays on all day.

My Secret to Clear Skin: Homemade Honey and Salt Mask

I recently said goodbye to my teenage self as I turned 20 and what a relief that was. For years and years I have suffered from teenage acne, sometimes mild and sometimes really bad that even the thought of going outside was daunting…and having social anxiety did not help either!

Recently, I have discovered a perfect solution for getting clear skin and that is a facial mask consisting of raw honey and salt.

Honey moisturises your skin and can fight acne and the salt works as an exfoliant removing all those dead skin cells. It is great for acne-prone/sensitive/oily skin. It reduces redness, minimises pores and leaves your skin glowing and feeling soft and fresh.

  1. One teaspoon of Raw honey
  2. One teaspoon of salt
  3. Mix together
  4. Slather onto face (be careful not to get salt in your eyes)
  5. Leave for 15 minutes
  6. Wipe face with a muslin cloth
  7. Wash face with warm water

It is as simple as that. I do it once every week and it just works wonders.
