How To Look Stylish At The Gym

Let’s face it, most of us still want to look glamorous in the gym but think it’s impossible due to all the sweat. Sports clothes is something I will never wear out in public as I don’t feel comfortable or feminine in them. BUT, since I’m a regular gym goer, I have transformed by gym wardrobe into a more stylish one so I can feel confident and comfortable whilst working out.

First of all, outfit! As it’s the new year, I decided to mix up my gym outfits and buy tops with motivational quotes and slogans. I bought a lot of slogan tops from Missguided, Boohoo and Forever 21 recently. I put together this ‘Sweat Squad’ slogan vest from and a pair of Live The Process floral print leggings. Complimenting the sleeveless vest, I like to add a Mesh or fishnet crop top underneath the vest. I love this one from Mesh Panel Crop Tee by Ivy Park along with the brands Double Layer Camo Sports Bra. To finish off the outfit, I’ve added a sturdy yet stylish pair of trainers such as this Adidas Gymbreaker Bounce, which is perfect for training.

I know a lot of people will be raising their eyebrows about wearing make up in the gym but what is the point of working out if you’re not feeling your best? Makeup makes me feel confident and makes me work harder in the gym. But is makeup while you workout good for your skin? It depends on what you use. I’m not talking full makeup. It’s all about natural and light.

I like to use a tinted moisturiser for the gym with a bit of sweatproof powder on top. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser (oil-free version) is perfect and lightweight for the gym. Rimmel London Waterproof Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner is one of my favourite eyeliners. I always wear it at the gym and after an intense workout, there isn’t even one bit of smudgeness – looks good as when I first put it on. I recently discovered Waterproof Sport Mascara by Eyeko and as the name says it, it is specifically for sports conditions. I love this mascara so much. And last but not least, lips! Stila Stay All Day Matte Lipstick is perfect for those sweaty workout. I make sure not to go all out on lipstick when I’m working out, a little goes a long way! Also, don’t forget a cute little make-up! I’m loving this Rose Gold Dita Make Up Bag from Skinny Dip.

Skin Tightening Options

Fine lines and wrinkles are not just an old people thing. It can happen to young people too. There are a lot of treatment options for tightening the skin.

How does skin tightening work?

Skin tightening works best by contracting the skin cells to remove wrinkles while also filling the thin cells with fresh collagen And elastins. Plump cells appear healthier and younger looking. They also fill in fine lines and wrinkles. A good treatment method doesn’t just tighten the skin, but plumps the cells with collagen to heal damage.

Topical Treatments

The least expensive treatment is by using natural treatment. Creams, serums, and lotions are all applied topically to the surface of the skin. Most of these lotions cannot penetrate the surface of the skin, so cannot encourage collagen growth or elastin production. They can only moisturize and tighten the surface of the skin. Results are mild and temporary at best.

Using ultrasound technology to heat the cells in the deeper layer of skin, this method encourages collagen growth to plump up the skin and renew the cells. It also causes the skin to tighten. Unfortunately, it cannot be used on the entire body. The FDA has only approved treatment in the face, neck, jowls, and upper chest areas.

IPL Treatments

Intense Pulsed Light or IPL is a treatment that uses light energy pulses to target cells in the lower layer of skin. It heat the cells to stimulate both collagen and elastin production, which will continue for as many as six months after treatment. By heating the cells with used aesthetic medical equipment, the skin also reacts by contracting. Results are noticeable immediately after treatment, but the full results won’t be seen until the skin has finished producing collagen.

Do treatments work on everyone?

That depends on several factors, including the client’s skin condition and age. The poorer the condition of the skin, the less effective the treatment will be. It will also affect how fast the skin heals. The ideal client is one who is in very good health, has healthy skin, and is between 25 and 45 years of age.

Which treatment is the best choice?

Deciding which treatment is the best is dependent on the client and their needs. If you’re young and have very mild wrinkles, then topical treatments might be best. For more moderate skin sagging, IPL procedures might be the best choice. Don’t forget to include the costs, recovery time, side effects, and risks in the decision process. Each of these elements plays into what an individual can afford and is willing to try for a procedure

My Modelling Experience

Recently, I was shortlisted to become a fashion model by The Model Factory/Luxe Models and they invited me to Kube Studios for a makeover and photoshoot. Kube help aspiring models break into the industry, along with training and advice.

As I have done photoshoots before, I wasn’t that nervous. In fact, I love it when someone else does my hair and make up. The make up artist done four different looks on me to go with my four different outfit changes.

The first look was a more natural look which went with a casual outfit that I would wear on an everyday basis – a tulle skirt with a plain black top. The photographer told me that it seems like I’m much more confident in modelling in public – that’s news to me! But shows that I do appear confident and it is showing!

The next look was another natural look with my usual all black lacey outfit.

Now it gets more glamorous and right up my street. More eye make up with statement outfits. This one is my usual elegant and ‘princessy’ look. I love my hair curled like this!

Because I am Asian, they asked me to go for an Indian look as it is part of my culture which I rarely expose that much. I thought why not? I love dressing up on Eid and stuff and it’ll be nice to be professionally shot wearing my Indian outfit (and make my mother happy!) I brought in my recent Eid outfit and my selection of bindis to top the look off. The make up artist matched the look to my outfit. These are some of my favourites shoots from the day.

Everyone at the studio was absolutely lovely and very welcoming. It gave me an impression and an idea of what the modelling industry is really like. I thought it’ll be harsh and demanding. I thought I needed to be tall to model, a reason why I never considered it before because I’m only 4″11′! But that’s perfectly fine. I think it’s really important, especially in modelling is to know when to say ‘no’. I have a particular style and if I don’t feel comfortable with a certain look or outfit, I will say no. I did on the day and they were absolutely fine with it and went with whatever I felt comfortable with. That’s what I loved most about the experience. As I mentioned, I thought it would be a demanding environment but it was far from that!

The team felt I did really well and have what it takes to be a professional model. They liked my pictures and now will match me up with agencies.

This is all new for me but so exciting! My main career path is of course in journalism but modelling is something I’d do on the side. I love my fashion and beauty and have always done. It is also a great addition to this blog and an extra thing I can tell you guys all about!

To end this, apparently I am a “glamorous journalist” – I’ll definitely take that! 🙂

I’m Exactly Where I’m Supposed To Be

This post is part 2 of my ‘This is Me’ piece. I did another shoot recently and the pictures are below. Again, they reflect my personality.

Looking through them, I’ve realised how far I have actually come. I’m not perfect but only a few years ago, I would have laughed in your face if someone told me I’d be able to put myself out there without feeling scared – and only a few months ago, I didn’t think I’d be at peace with myself.

Of course there are down days but I realised I can now feel pain, feel sad and sit with it, rather than harm myself in some way. Before, I’d be a self destructive mess and ruined close relationships and friendships. I have learnt a lot and can actually control strong emotions now. I cry and let it out but then move on, whereas before, a strong emotion would automatically turn into “I’ll kill myself.” – Not the pleasantest.

If you didn’t know, title of this post is from a song by Demi Lovato (from the Camp Rock film) called ‘This is Me’ – now you know where part 1’s title comes from. It is very cringeworthy and cliched but that song really describes me. Because this is me.

Edit: Sometimes people say to me that I only care about myself and that “you’re  so full of yourself.”

No, the thing is, I had a lot of insecurites and a low self esteem for many years; I spent years in and out of hospital, I was bullied all my life and I worked extremely hard to overcome feeling ugly, feeling fat and worthless and now I think I am amazing and for once, I will think of myself and put myself first. I won’t be used anymore. I dont care if you think otherwise. To get to this point is an achievement. Being full of oneself isn’t a bad thing. You don’t know how hard it is for someone to finally be confident in themselves. I’ve always cared about people more than they cared about me, well now I’m going think about myself for once.

September Favourites 2016

Two Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighter

I bought this highlighter back in June but haven’t used it until the end of September. BUT, it is so beautiful that I had to feature this on my September favourites even though I’ve been loving it for a few days! This highlighter is absolutely stunning and gives the cheeks such a beautiful brightened glow. I don’t know why I haven’t used it sooner! Two Faced products are all so beautifully packaged and I am just in love with the pink theme. It just looks so girly and elegant. When you open it, it has two different colours, a white and a subtle pink. Mix this both with the Real Techniques highlighting brush, and you get such a lovely glow. It is £25 but worth the price (for me anyway as highlighters last a very long time for me!)

Stage School

I wanted to see what this show was about as it looked quite good from the trailer. I watched the first episode and I found it so cringeworthy! It is based around students at D&B performing arts school in Bromley about all the going-ons inside the school, such as girl drama, boy drama and everyone competing to audition to get a role in a certain part in a music band, a play or dance.  The thing is, it is so bad but so good that I am hooked! I have been watching all the episodes so far. It airs weekdays on E4 at 19:30. The most ironic thing about it is that even though it is a reality show, it seems very much set up and the majority of the students cannot act or sing. In the middle and at the very end of each episode, one student breaks into a song, singing a current chart hit, performing in a music video. It’s so cringe and that’s the only word I can use to describe it – but for some reason, I just cannot stop watching it!

Cat Ear Headbands

I have been loving wearing cat ear headbands this month. They are so cute and goes perfectly with my style!

US Presidential Election Debate

US politics is rare for me to talk about but this election has got everyone interested because of one man – Donald Trump. I watched the debate versus Trump and Clinton and I found it very much amusing. Hilary seemed to keep her cool by laughing at whatever Trump said. I really loved the part when Hilary talked about Trump avoiding tax in his past and he replied by saying “At least I was smart about it.” It just made me laugh! I know what the world thinks about trump but you’ve got to give him credit for how much he has changed politics and has something else to offer. Half of the American people are gravitating towards him so he must be offering something that no other US presidents have. I think he actually has a chance to win. Today, especially in Britain, we have seen a dramatic change in politics within the last few months, so there is every chance Trump could be president. What other past presidential candidates caused as much debate as Trump has? It is certainly an exciting time but definitely a scary prospect. Covering the US election at work is also very interesting and I am learning a lot.

Labour Leadership

Now, politics over here is hardly uneventful these days. This month, we found out who has won the Labour leadership contest (for the second time) at their conference in Liverpool. It was Jeremy Corbyn v Owen Smith – and of course, with a massive majority, Corbyn has won it again, with even more votes than last year. Again, it is an exciting time, especially to be working in politics, because things have dramatically changed. With more than half of his MPs seem to disagree with him on a lot of things, who knows what is next for the party. Will they “unite” as they all keep saying or will the squabbles continue?

The Weeknd Ft. Daft Punk – Starboy

I have never been into The Weeknd, but I came across this song at the gym on Spotify and fell in love with it. Definitely a song to blast out in the car. Love it.

Spring/Summer 2016: What I Am Wearing

Spring Favourites 2014!

Well, it has been a while! I have been rather busy with university and final exams and deadlines but now university is over (university experience blog post coming soon) I thought I should ease my way into blogging by doing a Spring favourites as it is nearly Summer!

These are the things that I have been loving this Spring.

Manuka Doctor Products – My skin has been rather amazing recently and I do think it is to do with this new brand I have discovered. I needed some natural products because I have sensitive skin and came across Manuka Doctor in Holland & Barrett. I decided to buy all the apiclear range – the face cleanser, moisturiser and blemish cream (on a whim) and I have been using them for about three months now and I love it so much. They are expensive but they are so good. Ever since I have been using them, my skin has been amazing and I have had no breakouts. Amazing. This has replaced my homemade face masks that I used to make with Manuka honey. It is made with natural ingredients so amazing for acne-prone skin. I am on my third purchase of all the products and I will continue to buy them as long as it does its job! You can also find them in Superdrug.

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Foundation – I have changed up my foundation and found this amazing one. I will always love my Estee Lauder Double Wear but the Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions foundation has been a winner for me this Spring. It gives great coverage (I may do a review on this) and feels very light on my skin. Photo-friendly too.

Tanya Burr Lips & Nails – I love Tanya Burr and have been watching her on YouTube for years. She has brought out a lip gloss and a nail polish range and I decided to buy some. I gravitate towards red lip and nail colours so I bought the red nail polish in ‘Riding Hood’ and the red lip gloss in ‘Heart Skipped a Beat’. I love the lip gloss and wear it everyday now. I love the colour of the nail polish and how it looks on my nails however, it chips very easily and by about two to three days, half of the colour is gone. So that was quite disappointing but I have been loving the lip gloss and may buy some more of the lip-glosses.

Damon Albarn – Everyday Robots – Damon has finally gone solo anda few weeks ago he released he debut solo album called ‘Everyday Robots’. It is absolutely beautiful. My favourite songs from the album are ‘Hostiles’, ‘The Selfish Giant’ and ‘My Tembo’.

Lily Allen – Sheezus – Another new album. I have been really loving Lily’s comeback album called ‘Sheezus’. It is really catchy, very funny and quite cool too. I love the songs ‘Insincerely Yours’ and ‘Take My Place’.

Winter Favourites 2014

Well, it is March which means Winter is over and Spring is here! Below are some of the things I have loved from Winter.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge – This sponge is absolutely amazing and I have been using it all winter. It makes my foundation go on so smoothly and flawlessly. Absolutely wonderful – and definitely lives up to its name! Image

Benefit POREfessional Primer – This primer is definitely one of my winter favourites this year. Check out my full review on it right here if you haven’t already, which pretty much sums up my love for it.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette – Since Naked 3 came out, I have realised I have not even bought Naked 2 yet – so I decided to just buy it as I have wanted it for a long time. I love it. I have been using YDK a lot. However, I will be buying Naked 3 very soon.

Demi Lovato: 365 Days a Year – Staying Strong – I bought this book at the end of 2013 and I thought it would make sense to start reading it from the 1st of January. The layout of this book is interesting. Each individual page is dedicated to one day of the year until 31st of December. So, I am reading it the way it should be read. Every morning, I wake up and read a quote from that book – it helps me be more positive and think about each thoughtful quote and act on it. I highly recommend this book if you are going through a hard time.

ImageTiesto – Red Lights – I have loved Tiesto for years and I was about to see him live with Calvin Harris in December but I had to miss that gig unfortunately as I was not well. I have been really loving his new song ‘Red Lights’ – a really happy song and I love listening to it on the tube!

ImageBBC Get In Event – On February 11th, I went to the BBC Get In Event held by BBC Academy. I went to the London event at New Broadcasting House. As I am in my third year at university and thinking about graduate schemes and careers, I felt like I needed some advice directly from the BBC on how to get in and so this event was very useful for the application of the Production Talent Pool – which opens next week. I met some really nice people and got some fantastic advice from Simon Wright – BBC’s Talent Executive and Don Kong –  BBC Academy’s Programme Coordinator.  We did some group work – we had to develop a BBC programme idea and pitch it to them, which was very helpful for the application. Very much enjoyed that day and it is always lovely to be back at BH.

Beauty Review: Benefit POREfessional Primer

I took a risk with this product. Considering my skin is very sensitive, without even trying a sample first, (bearing in mind I did go and ask for a sample at the Benefit counter in Boots but they said they apparently do not provide a sample) and after umming and arring over this for a rather long time, I decided to take the bullet and just buy it thinking of the really good reviews I have watched on YouTube and read online about it. My opinion? It is absolutely amazing on my skin and I love it!

I have been looking for a really good primer to wear under my foundation that minimizes pores to the extent where you cannot even feel them. This certainly does the trick.

Even though it is oil-free, when you apply it, it does feel oily at first but that feeling straight away goes away and it feels so silky, velvety and lightweight and that is what I love about this product. It is not heavy at all. You just apply on your t-zone and it just makes the pores disappear and makes your foundation go on very smooth. It feels like you are not even wearing any thing else other than your foundation, which is always a bonus. The last thing you want is your face to feel caked with a lot of products, making your face very heavy and uncomfortable.

The only downside is the price at £24.50. However, I can justify it by saying that I have not found a primer any better than this (and I have tried a lot) so perhaps it is worth it. I bought this product with a set of three called pretty porefect, which comes with a mini thatGAL Face Primer and It’s Potent Eye Cream, which I have yet to use. This was the same price as the individual product, but gives me two free samples, so I thought why not?

All in all, this primer is absolutely amazing and I will definitely purchase it again.
