I have been asked to write a post about my favourite music so here it is!
I have a varied music taste to be honest and some people are often surprised by that. I went through a lot of music phases throughout my life. But, if you really know, you would know that my main favourite genre is of course 90’s Britpop and the mod era from the 1960’s. I have divided each of my favourite genres that I usually listen to in sections…
Oasis would be my favourite band ever due to the fact that Liam and Noel had a big impact on my life, especially Noel. I used to watch them on Top of the Pops and say “Why does that man always put his hands behind his back?.” I did not like Liam as much but Noel on the other hand, looked rather cool with his guitar and I wanted to be him. I used to go into school, just pretending that I was Liam and Noel, just for the mere fact that they were cool and I wanted to be cool too.
I also love The Verve, Suede, The Charlatans, Primal Scream, Ocean Colour Scene, Blur, Pulp, Supergrass, Cast, The Stone Roses, Travis, Stereophonics, The La’s and a lot more.
Below is a song by Suede from the 90’s. I grew up listening to Suede and have also felt quite inspired by them. Brett Anderson is absolutely amazing and they are still going to this day, which I love. They are one of my favourite bands.
I also love The Jam, The Who, The Kinks, Small Faces, The Byrds and then some punk stuff too such as The Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Undertones…
I loved The Jam since, well forever really. It was actually Noel Gallagher who made me get into The Jam and then I started listening Weller’s solo stuff. I adore The Jam and they are another one of my favourite bands.
1980’s New Wave/New Romantic
I also admire the 1980’s and love a lot of music from that era. The Smiths, Spandau Ballet. Duran Duran, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Electronic, The Style Council, Tears For Fears, Depeche Mode…
Below is a song by Electronic, which was a band formed by Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr in the 80’s and this is my favourite song in the whole entire world. I saw Johnny Marr play it live twice and no song can make me tear up as this one does. I absolutely adore this song. It just makes me so happy and I have the vinyl of it as well.
This does shock a lot of people as I am not the one to go clubbing or anything but alongside Britpop, I grew up listening to trance music. Trance is something that takes me into a different world and makes me both emotional and happy at the same time. It quite literally, sends me into a trance and makes me forget about everything. Armin van Buuren is absolutely amazing and I have seen him live twice. Every year, I go to London’s SW4 (South West Four) Festival JUST for the trance DJs. Trance DJ’s rarely come to the UK because they are more popular in other European countries so festivals like SW4 and Creamfields are a treat for British trance fans. I also love Aly & Fila, Tiesto, Dash Berlin, Markus Schulz, Paul van Dyk, tyDi, Gareth Emery, Inna and many more!
Armin van Buuren is my favourite trance DJ (no surprise there). This year, I saw him headlining SW4 in the rain. It was awful because of the rain but amazing at the same time. Below is a track from his latest album ‘Intense’ and I am currently quite addicted to this song.
I do listen to a lot of current bands and artists too. Obviously I love the solo stuff from people from my favourite bands such as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Paul Weller, Richard Ashcroft, Johnny Marr, Ian Brown, Damon Albarn, Morrissey. I also love Beady Eye, Billy Bragg, Amy Macdonald, The Courteeners, Miles Kane, Jake Bugg, Kasabian, Keane, The Pretty Reckless, Paramore, Evanescence…
But, I also listen to pop as well. Girls Aloud, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, The Saturdays, Little Mix, Avril Lavigne, Selena Gomez, Marina & The Diamonds, Gabrielle Aplin, Ellie Goulding, Diana Vickers, Britney Spears.
Avril Lavigne has always been one of my favourite artists ever since I was little. Yes, I did go through that Avril phase where all I wanted to do is dress like her but now, not so much. Her music is still amazing and I am not ashamed to still love Avril. I absolutely love her and her music.
